Academy Welcomes Motivational Speaker
We were thrilled to welcome David Hyner from Stretch development on Friday 19th July 2019.
David is an outstanding speaker who inspired our students through his dynamic high energy delivery and the use of simple, easy to apply “success strategies”.
David connected with our Year 9 and Year 10 students from the start and engaged them with his research interviews with some of the world’s highest achievers. He has left a long lasting impression on our students who loved the stories of Mr Hyner’s travels and experiences, and learnt that no matter how tough or unpleasant some situations might be, they have to be faced with courage and determination. Having also talked about the people in his life who gave him confidence and inspiration to pursue his dreams, He left a room full of students enthused to follow their ambitions # Rhino

Year 10 Work Experience Week 8th -12th July 2019
6 Nov 2020
Each year in September, year 10 students are introduced to the work experience programme.
Students should discuss with parents and carers which types of jobs they’d like to do and where they could potentially do their work experience.
Students in year 10 are given the opportunity to complete a week of work experience each July. This year our work experience week is from Monday 8th July to Friday 12th July 2019.
Students are able to choose their own placement and are supported to do this through the Safety Measures website where they can search for work places who have previously offered placements to students, and a guidance booklet from the academy. If students have family members, or friends of the family, who are able to offer them placements they can choose these workplaces for their work experience.
Students are supported with writing their letters and emails to support their application by their tutor.
TALK THE TALK – Year 9

![]()
On 5th July, students at Park Vale Academy will work with expert trainers from the education charity Talk The Talk.
Talk The Talk’s mission is to improve students’ communication skills to enable positive interaction in all life situations.
Talk The Talk has trained over 25,000 students in the past twelve months in England and Wales and nearly 80,000 since we first started – using a programme developed over the past six years.
Talk About Communication is an exciting and engaging master-class in essential speaking and listening skills within a creative classroom environment teaches students how to use persuasive language techniques to get ‘their message’ across. The day highlights and nurtures employability skills, interview techniques and key presentation skills. Via numerous speaking opportunities, students are coached and supported throughout the day to deliver a structured two-minute presentation, on a topic for which they have a genuine passion, to their peers.
There is no doubt that grades open the door to opportunity for our students. But when they walk through that door – it is a completely different set of skills. We are striving to ensure that all young people are suitably equipped with the essential tools and skills to communicate confidently in a variety of situations – both within school and in their lives beyond.
Young people are reluctant to stand up and speak out. They are reticent in voicing their thoughts and opinions due to the fear of being wrong or being ridiculed by their peers. One of the keys to the success of the Talk The Talk programme is breaking down these barriers by creating an environment of mutual respect with a supportive ethos within the classroom. When students stand up and voice their opinions, share their thoughts and present their ideas – they are applauded by their peers and congratulated by their workshop leader and school staff alike. We demonstrate that speaking out is not a ‘life or death’ experience – but one that we CAN do – and one that is no way near as daunting as we might think.
Richard Hull – Director – Talk The Talk
The evidence points very persuasively to a highly successful intervention, in particular for shy and reticent students, helping to increase their skills and confidence.
