Year 9 ‘Think Big’ Coding Workshops with Nottingham Forest/Ideagen – October 2026
20 Sep 2026

Year 9 students will undertake a series of coding & technology workshops with the ‘Think Big’ programme across October 2026.
Nottingham Forest Community Trust and global software leader Ideagen are set to inspire the next generation of tech talent through an upcoming series of ‘Think Big’ workshops.
NOTTINGHAM, UK — A dynamic partnership between Nottingham Forest Community Trust and Nottingham-headquartered software giant Ideagen is preparing to launch a series of high-impact technology workshops. The initiative aims to introduce young people to the world of technology, broaden their career aspirations, and bridge the digital skills gap.
By leveraging the exciting backdrop of Premier League football, the ‘Think Big’ programme motivates Year 9 students to see technology-based roles as viable, rewarding, and accessible future career paths.
Bridging the Digital Skills Gap
The upcoming workshops are specifically designed to demystify the tech industry for secondary school students. By combining the local passion for football with cutting-edge digital education, the initiative focuses on four core pillars:
- Sparking Tech Curiosity: Introducing students to fast-evolving concepts like coding, artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics to excite young minds.
- Connecting Tech & Sport: Highlighting real-world technology applications, from matchday analytics to the mechanics behind goal-line technology and VAR at The City Ground.
- Developing Essential Skills: Building technical logic alongside vital employability traits, including teamwork, communication, and creative problem-solving.
- Providing Industry Role Models: Granting direct access to ‘Think Big’ Ambassadors—including real-world software engineers, business analysts, and digital creators—who share their career journeys.
Inspiring Future Careers
As the digital economy grows, regional partnerships like ‘Think Big’ ensure local students are not left behind. The interactive sessions give students a hands-on look at software development while showing them how diverse and creative a tech career can truly be.
Through these masterclasses, Nottingham Forest and Ideagen are helping students “Think Big” about their potential, proving that the digital sector has a space for everyone.

Supporting MacMillan Cancer Charity – 25th September – Cakes for Sale!
17 Sep 2026
Macmillan Coffee Morning is on Friday 25th September this year. This is a charity event we do every year to raise as much money as possible for this cause.
In typical fashion, we will have a cake sale during break time in G5, with any cakes left over being kept for resale at lunch time instead in G5.
Tutors – please can you inform the students that if they wish to purchase a cake on the day, they will need to make sure they have cash on them. Students are also welcome to contribute to the sale by bringing in cakes that have been baked or bought from the shop if they wish to do so. Students who would like to help out with the selling of cakes on the day please speak to Mr Ludlow.

Ada Lovelace Day Trip- Nottingham 13th October 2026 at MediCity
15 Sep 2026
‘An event celebrating and celebrating women and girls in STEM in honour of local Nottinghamshire legend Ada Lovelace‘
Who was Ada Lovelace: Ada was the 19th century mathematician who is considered the founder of computer science.

Between 1842 and 1843, Ada worked with Charles Babbage to translate an article on the calculating engine, supplementing it with an elaborate set of notes, simply called Notes (later published in Taylor’s scientific memoirs). These Notes contain what many consider to be the first computer program with the first algorithm intended to be processed by a machine.
Lovelace’s Notes included a ground-breaking description of the possibilities of programming the machine to go beyond number-crunching to “computing,” including speculating on its future ability to create graphics and complex music.
She was also the daughter of romantic poet Lord Byron.
