The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Y9 Launch Assembly

We believe that The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award offers young people a fantastic opportunity to form new friendships and learn new skills and interests for their lives ahead. An assembly introduced the DofE award to our year 9 students who are able to sign up to take this prestigious award.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a voluntary, non-competitive programme of practical, cultural and adventurous activities designed to support the personal and social development of young people aged 14-25. It offers an individual challenge and encourages young people to undertake exciting, constructive and enjoyable activities in their free time with a well-recognised award at the end to show a future employer their determination to commit and undertake challenges.
What does the programme consist of?
Bronze (for those in Year 9)
- Volunteering – undertaking service to individuals or the community, 3 months
- Skills – developing practical, social skills and personal interests, 3 months
- Physical – improving an area of sport, dance or fitness activities, 3 months
- Expedition – planning, training for and completion of an adventurous journey, 2 days/1 night
- All participants must undertake a further 3 months in one of the Volunteering, Physical or Skills sections.

Year 9 Tutor Reviews – Wednesday 1st October 2025. School closes 2.05 pm on this day.

Good morning,
A reminder that PVA has Year 9 Tutor Reviews Wednesday 1st October 2025. There will be an early finish for all students at 2.05 pm on this day.
These meetings add to our partnership work with parents in helping to secure outstanding results for students. During the review week all parents and students should attend a 20 minute face to face meeting.
Review meetings are an opportunity for parents to come into the academy to meet with their child’s tutor to discuss their pastoral development and set agreed targets for the year ahead. Later in the year there will also be a subject based parents’ evening where parents will have the opportunity to speak to their child’s subject teachers about their progress in their subjects,
Coming to PVA – Jamie Peacock

Jamie Peacock former Great Britain and England Rugby League Captain will deliver a motivational talk to Year 11 students on Thursday 9th October 2025.
Jamie will deliver his “Be a Champion” talk designed to instill principles of self-discipline, resilience, and teamwork in students, using examples from his extensive rugby career to illustrate themes of success and overcoming adversity
Year 11 Revision Session for Parents – Thursday 9th October 2025

A reminder to Year 11 parents the revision strategies meeting will take place in the Main Hall starting at 5.45pm. It will last approximately 1 hour and will help you support your child in their GCSE exams this summer.
