Safer Internet Day

10 May 2021

Films for 11-18 year olds

These films are aimed at children and young people aged 11-18 exploring what we can trust on the internet as part of our Safer Internet Day 2021 campaign.

This main film can be a great way of furthering the discussions raised the education packs, why not watch the film with your class and ask the following questions:

  • What impact does inaccurate content we see online have on us?
  • Why does inaccurate content exist, where does it come from, what’s the solution?

You can download the film or access our British Sign Language version here

We also spoke to some experts who look at information online and check if it is accurate, who is sharing it and why. Check their tips for children aged 11-18.

Extra Curricular Activities Start

10 May 2021

Extra Curricular activities have restarted at the academy post lockdown.

A large number of clubs run every day after school, to ensure the interests and needs of all students are being met. From singing in the choir, enjoying sporting activities in P.E, or getting involved in the Duke of Edinburgh award , opportunities are available for all our students and are a real strength of the academy.

Every student is expected to attend at least one activity, and we find that most students attend more than one. We encourage students to be as actively involved as possible, as this will enable them to learn new skills, meet new people and to find an interest that they can take with them when they leave the school.

Building Brilliant Vocabulary

10 May 2021

Did you know that the English language borrows words from 300 different languages? Or that the typical vocabulary size of a successful pupil leaving secondary school today is 50,000 words? Our language, in terms of breadth and depth, is more difficult to learn than many others.

It’s no wonder then, that our vocabulary is one of the biggest predictors of success at GCSE.

At Park Vale Academy, we take a coherent approach to teaching vocabulary. All of our teachers and teaching assistants are trained in explicit vocabulary teaching. Vocabulary is taught explicitly through tutor time as well as being embedded into curriculum plans. Learning About Protected Characteristics – Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

3 May 2021

Our students learn about protected characteristics. (PowerPoint resource and PDF. Watch our video)

Promoting equality, diversity and inclusion is essential for both our teachers and students. The aim is to create a classroom environment where all students can thrive together and understand that individual characteristics make people unique and not ‘different’ in a negative way.

Equality and Diversity

Tolerance and harmony are core values at Park Vale Academy. Students acquire an appreciation of and respect both for their own and other cultures and traditions through the academy’s wider curriculum in tutor time, House activities and assemblies teach students about different religions, and encourage students to discuss and explore concepts such as identity, diversity and community cohesion.

Compliance with the Equality Act 2010

Park Vale Academy is committed to the fair treatment of all individuals.  In accordance with the Equality Act 2010, we are committed to making sure that no individual experiences less favourable treatment, discrimination or harassment because of their:
