The Brilliant Club

Park Vale Academy, in collaboration with The Brilliant Club, is pleased to be delivering the Scholars Programme to 24 of its students as part of its More-Able Strategy.  During the Scholars Programme, our students will have six tutorials with their PhD tutor which include weekly reading and writing assignments that lead to the completion of a final assignment. This assignment is marked thoroughly by PhD tutors and given a university style grade (1st, 2:1, 2:2 etc.).

The programme began with a launch trip on 22^nd January 2020 at Cambridge University, where our students had a campus tour, received information advice and guidance from the university and meet their PhD tutor for the first time.

The programme finishes at the end of April with a graduation event to celebrate the completion of The Scholars Programme.

Year 8 pupils won the City Handball competition last night [20th January 2020], progressing on to the county finals in Feb. It was a really tough competition, with the team winning their final game in extra time against Trinity to go through.

Congratulations to Charlotte, Christina, Deanna, Ashanti, Molly, Isabella, Nevaeh, Stephanie, Julia and Charley.

The academy will close early at 2.05 pm for all Reviews

This will allow for review meetings to take place. This meeting is an academic tutorial bewteen the tutor, parent(s) and student providing an important opportunity to discuss progress and plan how best to support them.  Tutors will make contact to organise a mutually convenient time to meet. 

Two of our community police officers came into Park Vale to have a lesson on how to use Instagram from some of our year 10 students. They have set up Operation Reacher in the Bestwood and Top Valley area to tackle organised crime.

Review weeks are in addition to Parents’ Evening. As a result, the whole school will have an early closing time of 2.05pm on Thursday 5th December 2019 to allow the review meetings for Year 10 to take place.

These review meeting are an important opportunity for you to discuss your son or daughter’s progress in school, attendance, cause for concerns, reflecting on the last academic year’s target, setting targets for the future and a parental feedback questionnaire. 

Your son/daughter’s tutor will organise a mutually convenient time in that week in which to speak with you.
