Year 7 Flu Vaccine

6 Nov 2020

Autumn / Winter 2020 – 2021

Dear Parent/Guardian,

It is time for your child’s yearly flu vaccination!

Year 7

Why get your child vaccinated?  It helps keep your child safe from flu. Flu can be a nasty illness and sometimes causes serious problems. It is a quick and simple nose spray that works the same as a flu jab.  Giving your child the flu spray will stop the spread. This will help keep friends and family safe. Older people and those with illnesses are most at risk if they catch flu from children.  It is free for your child. Flu changes so even if they had it last year they need it again this year.

www.nhs.uk/child-flu has more information and tells you which children need the flu jab instead of the nose spray.   How do you let us know you want your child to have the flu vaccination?

Please fill in one online consent form for each child here …  https://www.nottinghamshireimmunisations.co.uk/Forms/Flu

The code for your child’s school is NG144487

Please fill it in by 18th September 2020 to ensure your child gets vaccinated. Even if you do not want your child to be vaccinated please complete the form to let us know. The childhood flu programme runs until December 2020.  What if my child is absent?  If your child is away from school on the day, please contact us to book a clinic appointment. This vaccine is not offered by your GP unless your child is in an at risk group.  If your child becomes wheezy, has a bad attack of asthma, or has started steroid tablets for asthma after you return this form, please contact the School Aged Immunisation Service. If your child has this vaccination anywhere else, let the team know to stop them getting it again.

Please email sais@nottshc.nhs.uk if you have any problems or questions and include your contact details, the team will be happy to help.

Yours sincerely

Changes to the awarding of exam grades following Government updates this week

GCSE

  • GCSE results will be awarded on Thursday – these will be based on the Centre Assessed Grades (CAGs) as per OFQUAL guidance – if exam boards have awarded a higher grade then the higher grade will be shown on the results sheet that students receive
  • The school is not permitted to release its grades before that point.  You have already been informed about how you should collect results by letter and in a text that you were sent recently
  • We do not yet have confirmation from OFQUAL in relation to the issuing of BTEC grades and these shall be communicated with you as soon as we have the updates
  • Please do not contact teachers directly with any queries that you may have in relation to Centre Assessed Grades
  • We look forward to seeing our students on Thursday but unfortunately we will not be able to admit parents, friends or other family members onto the school site to ensure safety and allow for social distancing in line with government guidelines.
  • Students will be supported with the sixth form enrolment process and careers advice will also be available on the day.

Year 10 RE results

We are looking forward to receiving the results of the RE GCSE entered by the majority of our year 10 students.  Unfortunately due to the regulations on social distancing and numbers of people allowed through the school building, we will not be able to hand these out on 20 August as we have done in previous years.  Students will receive these results on return to school in September.

CONGRATULATIONS Y11 ON YOUR GCSE GRADES

6 Nov 2020

Congratulations to our Year 11 students on their excellent GCSE results yesterday. It has been a particularly difficult time for them being denied the opportunity to take their exams this year and we are just so pleased that they have been able to secure the grades which their teachers predicted for them. They continue the upwards trend in our results due to the hard work and commitment they demonstrated throughout their time at Park Vale.

So well done Class of 2020 and good luck with the next steps in your education. We hope to celebrate with many of you at the Prom!

FROM SEEDS TO RICHES FOR THEO

6 Nov 2020

During the coronavirus pandemic, people have been pulling out all the stops to raise funds for NHS Charities Together.

Theo Carey is utilising his talents to raise much-needed funds and has produced and sold plants during the lockdown to raise money for the NHS.

Theo has asked for seed donations to support him in his endeavours.  “If anyone would like to post any seeds into school, I would be very grateful”.

Theo said that “due to the lock down. I thought I would start a summer project (growing my own vegetables) I invested in a small plastic green house, (which blew away). Several varieties of vegetable seeds, compost and pots.

I thought this project would be easy, however I look upon it as being a scientific experiment. You have to keep the seedlings at a certain temperature, watered and lots of monitoring.

I have raised £126.00 so far for the NHS I hope to raise a lot more!!!

My most popular seller is the cucumber plant and the lettuces. I have enjoyed this much more than I thought I would and I am looking forward to developing my skills and trying to grow more challenging plants”

The academy is really proud of Theo’s hard work and initiative to raise money for a great cause. Well done Theo!

FSM Updates

Update 24/07/2020

Free school meals vouchers to the value of £90 have been issued to cover the summer holiday period.  If your child qualifies for these you will receive either postal vouchers within the next couple of days or email vouchers, which will be available for download from 24th July.

Update 4/6/20 Free school meal vouchers for the period 1st June to 19th June have either been emailed or posted out this week.  If you receive emailed vouchers please check your inbox (including spam and junk mail) and redeem your vouchers as soon as possible.  The email will be from Edenred rather than the school.  If you have any queries please contact us.  Thank you.

Update 1/5/20: We have now moved to the new Government Free School Meals Voucher Scheme (Edenred).  If your child is in receipt of free school meals and we hold an email address for you, codes will be emailed to you next week which can be exchanged for vouchers at the supermarket of your choice.  For those parents who have not provided an email address, vouchers will be printed off and posted to you sometime next week.  A Guide for Parents and FAQs can be found by clicking this link, but if you have any other queries please contact the school.

Update 17/4/20: There have been some difficulties in accessing the new Government FSM Voucher Scheme, therefore we will be providing vouchers by post again for weeks commencing 20th April and 27th April.  The allowance is £15 per week and you will therefore be sent a voucher for £30 per child, to cover both weeks early next week.

Update 1/4/2020: Asda vouchers will be issued again for parents of students who are in receipt of free school meals to cover week commencing 6th April and week commencing 13th April.  From week commencing 20th April we are moving to the new Government Voucher Scheme, more information will follow over the Easter holidays.
