MOCK EXAMS RESULTS DAY 29th November 2022
29 Nov 2022
As you will be aware the Year 11 mock exam period has just ended. The mock exams are a vital phase in a student’s preparation for their GCSE exams. Students will gain a lot in terms of experience and have clear goals moving forward to help them aim for success in the rest of the course.
To complete the mock exam process, we will be holding a Mock Results Day on Tuesday 29th November 2022.
This means that all students will receive all of their exam results in an envelope during a meeting with a member of staff. The meetings will be held throughout the course of the day on a 1:1 basis and students will receive an appointment card telling them where they need to go. They will then have the opportunity to discuss their results with a member of staff. This dialogue will be extremely useful in guiding students to reflect on what has gone well and how they might focus their revision for the next set of mock exams which begin on Monday 27th February 2023.
In addition, the member of staff will also be able to discuss with students what these mock results would mean in terms of possible future choices. The experience will clearly prompt important conversations about future life choices and possible career paths. However, perhaps more importantly than ever, it will also be an opportunity for a 1:1 meeting where students can discuss how they are feeling about where
they currently are and what they can do to ensure that they continue to make good progress in the months ahead.

Questions you may wish to ask at parents’ evenings
Jot down a list of questions and/or observations (not too many, though) on each subject in advance so you’re your appointments are focused and make the most of the limited time.
Some useful questions might be:
- Is my child’s progress in line with the teacher’s expectations?
- Has he or she done anything particularly well, or badly?
- What can he or she do to improve?
- Are they attending the extra revision sessions after school?
- How can I help as a parent?
- How can you help as his or her teacher?
- How much time should my child’s homework for this subject take?
- How much time should my child be reading for?
- What do his or her grades tell us about possible performance in important future exams?
- Does he or she contribute in lessons?
- How does my child get along with the other pupils in the class and the teachers?
Make a note on the night of the teachers’ answers – after a couple of hours whisking from one subject to another, it can be easy to forget or muddle the comments.
…And more questions
Most teachers have a wealth of knowledge and experience, so ask for their guidance and suggestions on how you can help your child to do their best in the subject. If a teacher says something you don’t understand, ask for clarification. Parents are not expected to know all about a subject or a method of teaching.
Constructive criticism
Good teaching means identifying areas for improvement, so don’t be offended if you hear criticism of your child. This should always be constructive and designed to help them to achieve their potential in the subject. If your child is with you, try not to sound disappointed or negative – or tell your child off! Take the advice of the teacher as a positive step towards better marks in the future. Remember that it’s rarely helpful to compare your child’s performance to other members of the class, set or year group – what’s important is that they are achieving in line with their own capabilities, not those of others.

Importance of green careers
The UK government aims to reach net zero in all sectors of the economy by 2050. Net zero means the amount of greenhouse gas we take out of the environment is the same as the amount we produce. You can read more about the Net Zero Strategy.
Many jobs can make a positive impact in different ways. Any career that helps the UK work towards net zero could be considered a green career.
You can also learn new skills in different industries whilst helping to protect the future of the planet.
Environment, science and engineering green careers
You could work in an industry that directly tackles climate change such as environment, science and engineering. Here are some examples of green careers in these industries.
Countryside officer
Countryside officers give advice on how to manage, protect and improve the rural environment. You could conduct surveys, write reports and support local environmental events.
Corporate responsibility and sustainability practitioner
Corporate responsibility and sustainability practitioners make sure companies work in an ethical way. You could create a sustainability strategy and make sure companies do not cause harm to the environment.
Recycling engagement officer
Recycling engagement officers run local recycling and sustainability schemes. You could also promote recycling in the community and give advice on waste management.
Wind turbine technician
Wind turbine technicians maintain and repair wind farm turbines. You could work in rural areas or at sea to install, test and fix wind turbines.

Green careers in all industries
To make positive changes to become net zero, businesses need people to plan, carry out and maintain these changes.
For example, in most industries you could be a:
- business analyst who looks into what a business does and gives advice on the best way to make improvements
- digital marketing executive who works with clients to create campaigns, promote messages and develop a brand that is sustainable
- product designer who creates new products and improves existing ones, including reducing the environmental impact of a product
- project manager who organises tasks, resources and people to complete a project on time

Health and safety adviser
Health and safety advisers work to reduce accidents, injury and health problems in the workplace. You might need to learn new green standards and processes for safety in the workplace.
Motor mechanic
Motor mechanics repair and service cars and vans. You might need to work with high voltage batteries on hybrid or electric cars.
Roofer
Roofers repair and tile roofs, fit skylight windows and fit roof insulation. You might need to learn to fit solar panels onto roofs.

Skills and qualifications
You’ll need different skills and qualifications for any green career.
You might already have transferable skills like communication or leadership. Or you might need specific technical skills and qualifications. You can explore careers to find information for a certain job.
You can also find a course to get a qualification. You might be able to get a free qualification if you’re eligible.
