VIRTUAL ADA LOVELACE EVENT 2020!

6 Nov 2020

 Virtual Ada Lovelace Day 2020

Year 8 girls loved being involved in the Virtual Ada Lovelace Day 2020!

The activities on the day included completing challenges set by local scientists and a Q&A session with a scientist to find out more about their careers. Our Year 8 students were to work as inventors and had to present their ideas back to the group of scientists at the end of the event.

Our students had to invent something to make life easier. Their final presentation had to demonstrate they had produced something which:

● shows an invention and how it works (a patent attorney would call this the     “specification”)
● why it is different to what already exists (a patent attorney would say this is the “novelty” of your invention),
● why it is “clever” and tell us what problem it solves (a patent attorney would  say this is the “inventive step” of your invention)

Our students were full of amazing ideas for possible inventions and teams presented back on some of their favourite ideas including an automated solar charged litter picked, an intelligent wardrobe, intelligent glasses which monitor health and another pair that identify possible areas of concern – linked to current news and a wallpaper that could be programmed to change colour and display images.

Year 7 Flu Vaccine

6 Nov 2020

Autumn / Winter 2020 – 2021

Dear Parent/Guardian,

It is time for your child’s yearly flu vaccination!

Year 7

Why get your child vaccinated?  It helps keep your child safe from flu. Flu can be a nasty illness and sometimes causes serious problems. It is a quick and simple nose spray that works the same as a flu jab.  Giving your child the flu spray will stop the spread. This will help keep friends and family safe. Older people and those with illnesses are most at risk if they catch flu from children.  It is free for your child. Flu changes so even if they had it last year they need it again this year.

www.nhs.uk/child-flu has more information and tells you which children need the flu jab instead of the nose spray.   How do you let us know you want your child to have the flu vaccination?

Please fill in one online consent form for each child here …  https://www.nottinghamshireimmunisations.co.uk/Forms/Flu

The code for your child’s school is NG144487

Please fill it in by 18th September 2020 to ensure your child gets vaccinated. Even if you do not want your child to be vaccinated please complete the form to let us know. The childhood flu programme runs until December 2020.  What if my child is absent?  If your child is away from school on the day, please contact us to book a clinic appointment. This vaccine is not offered by your GP unless your child is in an at risk group.  If your child becomes wheezy, has a bad attack of asthma, or has started steroid tablets for asthma after you return this form, please contact the School Aged Immunisation Service. If your child has this vaccination anywhere else, let the team know to stop them getting it again.

Please email sais@nottshc.nhs.uk if you have any problems or questions and include your contact details, the team will be happy to help.

Yours sincerely

Exam Results summer 2020

6 Nov 2020

18 August 2020

Changes to the awarding of exam grades following Government updates this week

GCSE

  • GCSE results will be awarded on Thursday – these will be based on the Centre Assessed Grades (CAGs) as per OFQUAL guidance – if exam boards have awarded a higher grade then the higher grade will be shown on the results sheet that students receive
  • The school is not permitted to release its grades before that point.  You have already been informed about how you should collect results by letter and in a text that you were sent recently
  • We do not yet have confirmation from OFQUAL in relation to the issuing of BTEC grades and these shall be communicated with you as soon as we have the updates
  • Please do not contact teachers directly with any queries that you may have in relation to Centre Assessed Grades
  • We look forward to seeing our students on Thursday but unfortunately we will not be able to admit parents, friends or other family members onto the school site to ensure safety and allow for social distancing in line with government guidelines.
  • Students will be supported with the sixth form enrolment process and careers advice will also be available on the day.
