Assemblies
At Park Vale Academy, we believe that assemblies are an important occasion and share our positive school ethos for excellence and therefore are at the heart of raising achievement and standards. Our academy enriches our curriculum provision with a comprehensive and inspirational assembly programme to support our students’ personal development and raise their awareness and appreciation of key issues, faiths, events and practices. Our assembly programme is an important part of our curriculum provision promoting the culture and ethos of our academy, supporting our students and fostering fundamental British Values, raise social, moral, spiritual and cultural awareness; promote personal, social, health, relationship and sex education. Our assemblies, which include reflection time on the big issues and challenges that life poses, contribute to developing students into happy, successful and responsible young people.
Assemblies usually occur in vertical mixed tutor groups as Houses however, assemblies can also occur in tutor time in same age year groups to support age appropriate guidance and content. Assemblies can be extended to create time to allow guest speakers and deliver external programmes for example Careers, Drug Awareness, E-safety etc. As well as highlighting the school and British values, we ensure that all our children are exposed to important issues. For example, we constantly integrate anti-bullying messages, women’s achievements, safety messages, black history, local and national events and commemorations and news events into our assemblies. Assemblies take place as a mass gathering in the academy hall and also more recently as virtual assemblies delivered into classrooms. These themes and values are crucial in supporting our students to develop as respectful, emotionally intelligent and successful young people. In other words, they underpin the school’s ethos and values and the whole of the curriculum! And aim to create, nurture and sustain a sense of community.
